Diaper Cake!

I was honored to be one of the hostesses for my best friend’s baby shower.  Since this was her second baby and it was also going to be a baby boy she decided she really didn’t need that many baby items.  So her two sisters and I decided to throw her a diaper and wipes shower.  I am the crafty one of the hostesses so I was in charge of centerpieces.  We quickly decided on diaper cakes, even though I had never made one.  I thought, how hard could they be?    I soon learned that not only are they not hard to make, there is a lot of room for errors and mistakes!  That’s my kind of craft.
I went to my go to site to search for ideas:OnePrettyThing
Once there I looked through the different ways to make the cakes and settled on this version made by :Little Pink Dollhouse.  I basically did her tutorial with a few modifications.  I wanted wider layers since they were going to be centerpieces so I replaced the bottles on the bottom and middle layer with rolls of toilet paper.  This also made the cakes stackable and so much easier to transport.  The top layer is all diapers wrapped around a stuffed animal.
Since my best friend had decided on a safari theme it was easy to pick the ribbon and the animals.  I even decorated a wipes box to match the theme.  Without further ado, here are the finished cakes.  Sorry there are no assembly pictures but I wasn’t really blogging when I made these.
This cute alligator was my favorite.  He is so squishy

The monkey is a rattle!

This giraffe was a favorite at the shower.

So, if you are planning a baby shower I highly recommend making a diaper cake.  So cute and useful since all the diapers can be used when baby gets here.

Hoo are You?

This is the first time I have joined the Hoo are you Party.  It’s been fun reading about everyone.  If you haven’t joined the party you really should!

NightOwlCrafting

1.Do you wear glasses or contacts, if so for how long?

I wear glasses to read. I have never had contacts and can’t imagine starting every morning by sticking my finger in my eye.  I got my first pair of glasses my freshman year of college

2. What was your favorite board game as a kid?
I loved Clue… actually I still do.

3. What is a word that you use all the time?
I use the word eleventy-billion all the time. Anytime I have to use a number that’s the one I pick. ie: I did eleventy-billion loads of laundry today.

4. What is your favorite day of the week?
Thursdays because it’s one of my days off from work.

5. Did you graduate high school from the town you grew up in?
Yep, and I am still friends with several of my friends from elementary school and Junior High.

So...Hoo are you?

Crafty tonight!

I went to Hobby Lobby tonight and got inspired to do all sorts of crafts.  Unfortunatley I have to be an adult and clean my kitchen first.  Once the kitchen is clean, I can open my Hobby Lobby bags and start on that tutorial I promised y'all.  Are you excited?

Procrastinators Unite!…..Tomorrow

I am trying to get better about updating this blog.  My previous attempts at maintaining the blog have been a failure due to computer issues and the fact that I can sometimes be a bit lazy.  Hey I admit it and that’s the first step of fixing the problemSmile   I am finding it much easier to blog since my husband bought me a laptop for Christmas.  I am also using Windows Live Writer and it seems easier to use as well.  I am still learning the ropes here and am learning new things every day!  I am going to try to post a tutorial at the end of the week so stay tuned.  I will give you a hint… it’s colorful, girly and has a bit of bling too.  My nieces loved them when they got them for Christmas.

25 things you may or may not know about me!

I stole this idea from Angel Face Designs

I thought it was such a neat idea and I loved reading all the interesting tidbits and facts about her. So, without further delay here are 25 things about me…..

1. I have had the same cell phone number since my freshman year of college in 1994.

2. I once cut my hair 13 inches because my boyfriend at the time told me I couldn't cut my hair.

3. My favorite pizza is Mama’s Pizza in fort Worth - sausage and mushroom please!

4. San Juan surprised me by proposing at a TCU Football game. It was the first time in my life that I was speechless.

5. I live less than a mile from my college roommate.

6. I love notepads and pens.  Seriously I am addicted and might need a 12 step program.  I know if I went into a 12 step program that I would need to buy a new notepad to document it…. I’m just sayin

7. My wedding dress was not in my top 3 dresses to choose from, it was a random dress I grabbed when trying to narrow down the top three.

8. When chaos breaks out at the PD the first thing I do is pull my hair into a ponytail (usually while answering 911).

9. I love wearing baseball caps.  It’s a good thing my husband thinks I look good in them.  It’s just so easy to throw one on and slip a ponytail out the back.

10. I don't like artificially flavored orange things but love oranges.

11. My favorite drink is a Crown and Coke

12. I have had the nickname Wendymo since my freshman year of high school.

13. My wedding day is so far the happiest day of my life.

14. A grocery cart once saved my life by taking the force of a stack of shelves that fell on me. Firefighters/Paramedics said if the cart wouldn't have been there I would have been crushed to death. I am thankful for that cart!

15. I once did 167 cartwheels in a row in my living room.  My mom counted them for me.

16. I once was paddled with a wooden shoe by my mom on the side of the interstate while in a caravan on the way to a football game. (It's funny now!) That is one of the only times my mom has "lost it"

17. My favorite number is 17.

18. I did my senior year Criminal Justice Internship at a men's Federal Prison.

19. My favorite Mexican food is cheese enchiladas and my husband's are the best.

20. When I was little my dad would warm my sheets with a hairdryer before I went to bed. (Yes I know I was spoiled) .  My husband laughed when I did this for myself and finally bought me a heated mattress pad.  I LOVE it!

21. I love trying new shampoos and conditioners but usually end up going back to my favorites (Garnier Nutrisse and Herbal Essence)

22. I went through 5 majors in college before picking Criminal Justice.

23. My first real job (besides babysitting) was serving ice cream at Braum's.

24. I love sweet iced tea but can't stand any kind of hot tea.  It just doesn’t have any flavor.  I want to like it and I try it from time to time but so far I don’t.

25. I work better under pressure. I once read an assignment wrong and thought I had a 2 page paper due the next day but when I went back to look at it, it was in fact a 20 page paper. I did all the research and wrote the paper in one night. I received an A+ on it and was told it was one of the most well researched papers he had read. 95% of the paper was written at Old South Pancake House.

So, anything you want to share about yourself?

Rah Rah TCU!

tcu-rose-1

Purple.
Written by Tom Rinaldi

"It is the color of emperors.
The shade of the royal.
And today, it storms the game's palace.
In a bowl that's belonged to scarlet & gray, maize & blue, cardinal & gold -- purple enters the picture.
What does a color carry on this day, in this place?
Performance over pedigree.
Ability over lineage.
Confidence over conference.
Today, the Granddaddy welcomes a
few new sons dressed for majesty, eager for victory."

Oh Yea!

So it's no secret that I am a beginner at sewing. Actually is there is a level before beginner that would be me. My machine broke back before Christmas and I just now took it to get fixed. I had a quick lesson at the Sewing machine repair store as well. Want to know what the lesson was? You can't just put any Singer brand bobbin in a Singer machine. Apparently different machines require different bobbins. Yep, I didn't know that and used the wrong bobbin causing the bobbin casing (not sure if this is the official term or not) to break thus the machine wouldn't work. The man looked at me like I was an idiot. I can't be too mad at him because he didn't charge me the full price for repairing it and even sold me some of the correct bobbins. I now have my sewing machine back and am trying to decide on what to make on it first.
